Free Lead-Safe Training Session for Residents Offered
Staff Report /
The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability is urging residents to help prevent lead poisoning in children. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is offering a free One-Day Lead-Safe Training session for DIY homeowners and professionals working in housing-related fields. This training is particularly relevant for those who live in homes built before 1978 or are involved in renovations.
The training will take place on Tuesday, December 17, at the Indianapolis Public Library Spades Park Branch, located at 1801 Nowland Avenue. The session is scheduled from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch.
During the training, attendees will learn about lead-safe practices, complete a hands-on course, and have the opportunity to take an exam for certification, all in one day. It is important for individuals in the construction and maintenance industries, including painters, window installers, contractors, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC specialists, to obtain this certification as it is required by law.
This initiative aims to reduce the risk of lead poisoning in children, prevent potential lawsuits, and help participants compete against certified firms. Interested individuals can register for the training at [this link](https://attend.indypl.org/event/12222573).
This event is supported by several city departments, including the Indianapolis Office of Public Health & Safety, the Office of Minority & Women Business Development, the Department of Metropolitan Development, the Department of Business and Neighborhood Services, and the Marion County Public Health Department.
