Lifeguard Recruit Class Kicking Off This November

Volusia County Beaches is hosting a fall lifeguard recruit class with starting pay set at $17 per hour. Interested applicants must be at least 16 years old by March 2025 and meet specific physical requirements, including swimming and running times.

Applicants are required to swim 50 yards freestyle in under 30 seconds, swim 500 meters freestyle in under 10 minutes, and run a half-mile in under 3 minutes and 15 seconds. Candidates must also complete a recruit class, undergo a background check, and pass a physical and drug screening.

Upcoming tryouts are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

- Saturday, October 5, and Saturday, October 19 at the Ormond YMCA from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- Saturday, October 26 at the Port Orange YMCA from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The recruit class will take place on the following weekends at the Beach Headquarters:

- November 2 and 3

- November 9 and 10

- November 16 and 17

Each class will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the first day starting at the Daytona State College pool at 8 a.m. Tryouts for the class will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. on that first day.
