Shelters Open for Hurricane Milton in Volusia County

Volusia County Schools have announced the opening of shelters in response to Hurricane Milton. The shelters will open on Wednesday, October 9, at 9 AM.
On the East Side, the following shelters will be available:
- Mainland High School (General Population, pet friendly) located at 1255 W International Speedway Blvd, Daytona Beach.
- Creekside Middle School (General Population) at 6801 Airport Rd, Port Orange.
- Hinson Middle School (Medically Fragile Shelter) situated at 1860 N Clyde Morris Blvd, Daytona Beach.
On the West Side, the shelters will include:
- University High School (General Population) at 1000 W Rhode Island Ave, Orange City.
- DeLand High School (General Population, pet friendly) located at 800 N Hill Ave, DeLand.
- Galaxy Middle School (Medically Fragile Shelter) at 2400 Eustace Ave, Deltona.
Additionally, the Volusia County Fairgrounds will also be open as a shelter.
Transportation will be provided for those needing to reach the DeLand High School Shelter from Pierson. Residents who wish to use this service should gather at the Pierson Town Center by 9 AM on Wednesday, as buses will depart at that time.
