Volusia County Promotes Bike and Pedestrian Safety

Staff Report / Daytonalocal.org

Volusia County is emphasizing the importance of pedestrian and bike safety as students prepare for their journeys to school. The Volusia County Schools system, along with Sheriff Michael J. Chitwood, highlights the need for families to engage in discussions about safe travel habits.

To ensure safety while walking or biking, families are encouraged to follow some key tips:

- Familiarize yourself with Florida’s traffic laws concerning pedestrians and bicyclists.

- Ensure that bikes and scooters are well-maintained and that riders wear properly fitting helmets.

- Wear bright or reflective clothing to increase visibility to drivers.

The initiative aims to reduce distractions and promote awareness on the road. For additional safety tips, individuals can visit walkbiketoschool.org.
